After a year of delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic we were able to celebrate our first Cooking for Autism luncheon on June 14th 2024.
As a small group of friends and neighbors we met two distinguished professors from the UCD MIND Institute, Drs. Randi and Paul Hagerman, and heard their insights about the collaborative research program initiated by Senses Cultural. The gathering was focused on learning about Senses Culturals’ research collaboration with the Hagermans and Dr. Prigione from Dusseldorf University in Germany. We learned about new avenues for the treatment of Fragile X syndrome, autism, and related neurodevelopmental disorders (Learn more about our research here).
This was a motivational gathering focused on kindness and community featuring delicious Persian cuisine and cultural elements that enriched the gathering. The rice and beans with a touch of Zfran and Persian herbs, appetizer dishes of yogurt, lots of fresh vegetables, and Shirazi Salad punctuated many vibrant discussions. It was a truly inspiring occasion and we hope to repeat it often.
We are thrilled to announce our plans to host a series of such friendly gatherings featuring great Persian food. We hope that bringing our friends and neighbors together to celebrate moments like these willpromise a healthier and more peaceful world for us all. As the famous Persian saying goes, “By breaking bread we are building bridges.“ We think that this is just as true now as it has ever been.
We would like to thank Leila for her inspiring and beautiful dance performances. Leila is a family nurse practitioner and mother of two neurodivergent children. She is a true inspiration to us.
