Senses Cultural is scheduled to partner with San Francisco State University this fall for the next showing of Enduring Power: The Middle Eastern and Iranian Woman’s Story. With an opening reception and panel discussion led by Keynote speaker Karen AbyZayd scheduled for September 24th following the soft opening on September 21st, this photo exhibition features the work of 7 Middle Eastern and Iranian female photographers.
Ms. Monfared is honored to dedicate this installation of Enduring Power to Ms. Karen AbuZayd
as a way to honor her life-long dedication to humanitarian work. As part of this dedication, Ms. AbuZayd will be the Keynote Speaker during the September 24th opening reception. Her speech will be a conduit to the Panel Discussion that will immediately follow, and will create a great forum for discussion about the photography as well as the issues they address.
Ms. AbuZayd has devoted countless hours of her life to serving the causes of refugees as an American Diplomat, and was the Commissioner-General for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East from 2005-2010. She now serves on the boards of the Middle East Policy Council in Washington, UNRWA/USA and Americans for a Vibrant Palestinian Economy (AVPE). Currently, she is one of four Commissioners for the UN Human Rights Council’s Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic. As part of this Commission, Ms. AbuZayd travels to countries such as Kurdistan, southern Turkey and Lebanon to visit refugees, UN agencies and NGOS, diplomats and the governments, and creates a report tri-annually on a variety of issues.
Initially shown at UC Davis in the fall of 2014 and now a traveling photography exhibition, Enduring Power’s striking images tell the stories of everyday lives, ambitions, and struggles of the present-day woman in the Middle East. Produced by Tata Monfared, Senses Cultural’s founder, and curated by Sina Araghi, a Los Angeles based photographer, Enduring Power was strongly supported and celebrated by the faculty and students of UC Davis during the one-month duration of the show. Senses looks forward
to sharing this powerful exhibit with the community of SFSU this September.
