Dear Senses Cultural Board Members, contributors and colleges,
I am delighted to introduce our new team member Dr. Farideh Niroomand,
Dr. Farideh Niroomand provides consultation to community organizations on mental health. She obtained a master’s degree in clinical psychology/MFT from the Professional School of Psychology (PSP) in 2000, and has a Ph.D. in behavioral psychology from WMU. Born in Shiraz, she also obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Pahlavi International University in 1975. Before retiring in 2016, she engaged with the County Mental Health in Sacramento. In her career, she has completed mental health assessments, assessed clients for appropriate mental health services and referrals, provided case management services as a consultant for several community organizations, collaborated with private and public agencies to assure the quality of services, performed crises intervention, acted as a liason to JJS, ED, crises hospitalization, residential treatment, participated in case consultation, case review, and consulted with staff psychiatrists for medication management. Previously in May 1982, she led a successful project along with the Golden Gate Regional Center to exit individuals with developmental delays and autism from locked state developmental centers to community based facilities. This was a highly successful project as people were able to live a quality life in the community and stay active members of the society, and it was also a very cost effective project for the state. Dr. Niroomand relocated to Sacramento in 1990, to continue her work with community organizations as a consultant, mental health case manager, and program director.
Dr. Niromand believes;
Autism/Autism spectrum is a life long disability, where the individual has limited communication skills as well as social skills. due to severity of disorder, the individual might be limited in self-care skills that require 24/7 special care.
Due to limited communication skills, the individual with autism might have very low frustration tolerance, which in some cases might lead to acting out behavior included, but not limited to aggressive behavior.
It is clear that these individual and their families need long term support. such as advocacy, referral, treatment plan, parent support/awareness……..ETC,
I have many years of experiences just doing that. I hope to bring my special education in behavior modification and years of experiences to Senses Cultural and support the individual with Autism/Autism spectrum to continue live a quality life”.
Thanks,
Tata
