In celebration of International Women’s Day, Senses Cultural’s founder, Tata Monfared, has reached an exciting decision regarding Ms. Karen Koning AbuZayd, a powerful and respected humanitarian, and the future of Enduring Power, the powerful all-female photo exhibition first displayed in October 2014 at UC Davis.
Senses Cultural first debuted the all-female photo exhibition, entitled Enduring Power: The Middle Eastern and Iranian Woman’s Story, at UC Davis’ Alumni Center this past fall. Produced by Senses’ founder, Tata Monfared, and curated by Iranian photographer, Sina Araghi, this exhibition featured seven Middle Eastern women and was met with great acclaim amongst the academic and artistic communities. Their powerful photographs told stories of education, marriage, motherhood, independence, fear and hope – all through the lens of the female’s perspective.
This exhibition was essential to the progress of Senses Cultural’s efforts, as it attracted the participation of American diplomat Karen Koning AbuZayd. Ms. AbuZayd has been a champion for development causes for over 30 years, with an incredible resume of humanitarian work for healthcare, education, and social services throughout the Middle East and Africa. Since 2011, she has served the United Nations as a Commissioner of the Independent International Commission of Inquiry for Syria.
To coincide with International Women’s Day, and to honor the talents and incredible efforts of Karen Koning AbuZayd, Senses Cultural has dedicated the next exhibition of Enduring Power: The Middle Eastern and Iranian Woman’s Story, to Ms. AbuZayd. She is an exemplary leader who Senses greatly respects and admires, and is an excellent role model and inspiration for the leading women of tomorrow.
While this single show was a clear success, Ms. Monfared has larger ambitions for a traveling exhibition in 2015, bringing this excellent collection to additional campuses and art centers throughout the United States and worldwide. Ms. Monfared hopes that, through exhibitions like these and with the involvement of gifted leaders like Ms. AbuZayd, we can achieve a greater cross-cultural understanding amongst women all over the world.
