Dear supporters of Senses Cultural,
As the year comes to an end, we at Senses Cultural want to connect with you and show gratitude and pride for the great year that has just passed.
This year we exhibited an all-female photography collection at UC Davis entitled Enduring Power: The Middle Eastern and Iranian Woman’s Story. This exhibition drew over 2000 viewers, with strong support through social media and direct praise from the academic community. We also hosted a panel discussion at San Francisco State University regarding the impact of war on women and children and the health effects of trash-burning pits in Iraq at length – a story Al Jazeera America covered in detail just this month.
We have grown considerably this year. Our mission and projects attracted the participation of Karen Koning AbuZayd, a champion for humanitarian and development causes for over 30 years who served with the United Nations; Professor Randi Hagerman, the Medical Director of the Mind Institute at UC Davis Medical Center; Professor Franklin Lewis, the deputy director of the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Chicago; and our most recent honoree board member Ms. Natalia Owen, an active member of the Russian Federation in Sacramento. The dedication to education and philanthropies found in each of these Board Members is sure to bring strong developments within Senses Cultural.
2014 has brought great growth for Senses’ bilingual social media presence. We have added the Farsi language website and the blog to connect with our Farsi speaking supporters. Thanks to our Farsi contributor Mr. Abolhasan Mokhtabad for all his valuable work.
We plan to expand our projects and conferences nationally and internationally to further address environmental and health issues of women of the Middle East, along with exhibiting their powerful artistic creations. We will travel to additional university campuses with our Enduring Power exhibition, and will bring conferences and key note speakers to address the life and resiliency of women and their families. We know that with your help, 2015 will be our best and most influential year yet.
We ask you to contribute during this holiday season. Your support helps us bring changes to our world.
We wish you a very happy holiday season and all the best in the New Year!
Fondest regards,
Senses Cultural
